O
Rex gentium, et desideratus earum, lapisque angularis, qui facis
utraque unum: veni, et salva hominem, quem de limo formasti.
"And
the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second
time, And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because
thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only
son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will
multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which
is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his
enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be
blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice."
"And
it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the
LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and
shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the
mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will
teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion
shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And
he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and
they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into
pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither
shall they learn war any more. O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us
walk in the light of the LORD."
"Now
when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the
king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying,
Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star
in the east, and are come to worship him."
"Then
Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I
perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed
by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this
inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly
worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all
things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth
not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's
hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life,
and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of
men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined
the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That
they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and
find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we
live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets
have said, For we are also his offspring. Forasmuch then as we are
the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like
unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. And
the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men
every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which
he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath
ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he
hath raised him from the dead."
"And
when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a
centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home
sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I
will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am
not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word
only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority,
having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth;
and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and
he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that
followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no,
not in Israel. And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east
and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in
the kingdom of heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast
out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of
teeth. And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou
hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in
the selfsame hour."
"I
say then, Have the sons of Israel stumbled that they should fall? God
forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the
Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. Now if the fall of them be
the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of
the Gentiles; how much more their fulness? For I speak to you
Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify
mine office: If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which
are my flesh, and might save some of them. For if the casting away of
them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of
them be, but life from the dead? For if the firstfruit be holy, the
lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
"And
if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive
tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root
and fatness of the olive tree; Boast not against the branches. But if
thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Thou wilt
say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by
faith. Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural
branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the
goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but
toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise
thou also shalt be cut off. And they also, if they abide not still in
unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in
again. For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by
nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree:
how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed
into their own olive tree?"
"Now
therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens
with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being
the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed
together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are
builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit."
"Wherefore
remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are
called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the
flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being
aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the
covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh
by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one,
and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having
abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments
contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man,
so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one
body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and
preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were
nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the
Father."
